Who we are:
The Respect Life Committee of the Diocese of Santa Rosa
presently functions with no paid staff, under the direction
of Bishop Walsh. The committee is composed of lay people
with experience and dedication in promoting the culture
of life. We serve as a resource for the parishes and
parishioners of the diocese. We work in cooperation
with the California Catholic Conference and the US Conference
of Catholic Bishops’ Secretariat for Pro-Life Activities.
Statement of Purpose:
The Respect Life outreach of the Diocese of Santa Rosa
promotes the dignity and sanctity of human life from
conception to natural death through programs supporting
prayer, education, pastoral care and advocacy. Our mission
is to encourage the People of God of the Diocese of
Santa Rosa to become what John Paul II has asked us
to become: a people of life and a people for life (The
Gospel of Life, no. 78).
What we do:
Encourage, promote and coordinate diocesan and parish
activities regarding life issues, providing appropriate
resources as necessary.
Provide educational opportunities on life issues through
conferences and printed and electronic media.
Coordinate programs of prayer and worship that focus
on the sanctity of all human life.
Support local programs that counsel and assist women
with problems related to pregnancy.
Encourage and support post-abortion ministries.
Encourage and support local programs that provide care
for the dying.
